John Waller was probably born around 1533-1535 and was buried at Rattlesden, co.Suffolk, 28 Mar 1593. His wife was named Joan, but it is not know if she was the mother of all his children. Of the records of these children's baptism, only their son John had her name recorded. Joan was buried at Rattlesden, 29 Jul 1601.

It is very likely that John Waller is the son of Robert Waller, the elder of Rattlesden who died testate in late 1553. This Robert made his will 2 Oct 1553 and it was proved 12 Dec 1553 [Court of Archdeconry of Sudbury, R2/21/664 and R2/31/102, at Bury St. Edmunds]. In it he named his wife Elizabeth, bequeathed a cow to his daughter Joan, and to each of his unnamed nine children he left 40s. to be paid at age 22. John may have been one of this nine children.

In John Waller's will, dated 12 Mar 1592/3 and proved 21 May 1593 [Norfolk Consistory Court Wills, 12 Clearke, MF69], John Waller of Rattlesden yeoman left "to the poor 13s.4d. . . and to my son John all freehold lands in Rattlesden & Woolpit . . . to Anne Strutt my daughter & her executor £10 in one year . . . to Suzan Strutt my daughter £10 in two years . . . to John my son £10 in three years . . . to Elizabeth Lafflinge my daughter the use of the £10 & afer her decease to her children . . . to grandchildren at age 21 or marriage: Elizabeth Lafflynge £10, Thomas Lafflynge £10, Anne Strutt £4. Suzanne, Anne & Mark Strutt £3 each, John Waller £4, Suzan Waller £3, Elizabeth Waller £4 . . . to John, Suzan, Anne & Elizabeth my children 20s. each . . . to son John all my copy hold lands, tenements, etc., in Wollpitt . . . copyhold tenement late purchased of William Nunn to Elizabeth my daughter and her husban thomas Laffelyn for the term of her life, then to my son John . . . to son William £10 . . . residue to my Joan my wife." He named his wife and son John executors. Witnesses were Roger Thomas and John Jackson.
