Morkinskinna recites the descent of "Harald Sigurdarson" from "Harald hárfagri", to "Sigurdr hrisi", to "Hálfdan, father of Sigurdr sýr, the father of Haraldr", adding that these ancestors were all "kings of Hringaríki in Norway" [Morkinskinna, 9, p. 130]. He was christened in 998. King of Ringeringe.

Morkinskinna records that "Sigurdr sýr" married "Ásta daughter of Gudbrandr", previously wife of "Haraldr grenski" [Morkinskinna, 9, p. 130].
