• Background Information. 730 Alice was the daughter of Sir John Boteler and Isabella Haryngton (daughter of Sir William Haryngton). Alice married Sir Nicolas Byron of Clayton, whom she had four daughters, all of whom had legacies under archbishop William Booth's will, 20 Aug 1464 [York Wills, p. 265, Surtees soc.]
To avoid abuduction, Alice Boteler, widow of Sir Nicholas Byron, became veiled & took vows before the archbishop of York at Southwell on 23 Jul 1462 [York Wills, vol. iii, p. 336, vol. iv. p 334, Surtees soc.]
