• Background Information. 252 Francisco Domínguez de Mendoza, forty-seven years old in 1664 when Captain of the jurisdiction of Zia and Cochití, was also born in Mexico City. His wife was Juana de Rueda, who most probably came to New Mexico with her husband. Old and blind in 1680, he survived the Indian Rebellion with his family of five. His name appears no longer after that date, having perhaps died before the fall of 1681. Their son, Antonio Domínguez de Rueda, asked for permission to leave for New Spain in 1684. A sister of Antonio, Petrona, seems to be the woman who married a Bartolomé Trujillo at Guadalupe del Paso in February, 1681, and later married a Simón Martín in New Mexico after the Reconquest.
