• Background Information. 252 Andrés González, a native of Zacatecas, came to New Mexico in 1693. He is very likely the soldier from Parral who joined Vargas' forces in 1692. He was living in Santa Fe up until the year 1710, when he gave his age as sixty. He wrote very legibly. He directed the restoration of San Miguel Chapel in that year. In 1715 and 1716 he lived in Santa Cruz, but was back in Santa Fe in this year to direct the repairing of the Palace of the Governors. He and his wife, Francisca de Gambo (Gamboa or Ogamo?), a native of New Mexico, had a son, Diego, who married Olaya Sánchez at Santa Cruz in 1720.
