• Background Information. 160 Sir John Beauchamp, Knight, the younger son and eventually heir of Sir Humphrey de Beauchamp by Sibyl Oliver, was born about 1285, and living in 1337 when he was a witness to a charter of John, bishop of Exeter. He was lord of Ryme, Dorset, & of Oburnford, Oulescome, Teignhervy & Buckerell, co Devon, and likely was dead by 1346 when his son John Beaucham was holding these same manors.
Sir John Beauchamp, Knight, married, by 1211/12, a woman of the name of Joan, when his father settled lands on him in Oburnford, Devonshire, Coker, Risdon & Pole. Sir John may have married as his second wife, Alice, daughter and coheir of Sir Roger de Nonant, Lord of Cliston, co. Devon. Aliced was living in 1243/4.

• Background Information. 1516 Quote taken from Hutchin's History of Dorsetshire, Vol. IV, p. 295:
"Ryme Intrinseca - This little Vill is situated on the borders of the county of Somerset. It was the seat of Sir Humphrey Beauchamp, second son of Robert de Bello Campo, Baron of Hatch, in Somersetshire, whose son, Sir John, by the daughter and heir of Sir Roger Novant, had issue Sir John Beauchamp of Ryme, father of Thomas, who died issuless, leaving for his heirs, his sisters, wedded to Sir Robert Challons and John (William) Fortescue. The Fortescues did not seem to have posses this manor long. William Fortescue was Lord of Wispstone, in Devon."
