• Background Information. 141 Nicholas de Poyntz, lord of Pontz, son and heir, said to be aged 30 and more in 1308, had order for seisin 11 Feb. 1307/8. He was on the commission of the peace in 1307 and December 1308, when he was a knight. He was summoned for service against the Scots yearly 1308-11. He was summoned to Parliament from 4 March 1309 to 16 June 1311. Early in 1310/1 he was preparing to go abroad on pilgrimage, and in May 1311 was one of the four appointed to select foot-soldiers for Scotland in Somerset and Dorset, and one of two to lead the levies at Roxburgh.
Nicholas de Poyntz married, 1stly, as a boy, before 20 January 1287/8, Elizabeth, daughter of Eon la Zouche, of Harringworth, Northants, by Milicent (married 1stly, John de Mohaut), younger sister and coheir of Sir George de Cauntelo, Lord of Abergavenny (died 1273) and daughter of Sir William de Cauntelo of Calne, Wilts, by Eve, 3rd daughter and coheir of William de Briouze of Abergavenny, by Eve, sister and coheir of Anselm Marshal, Earl of Pembroke. Elizabeth appears to have been living in 1297.
Nicholas de Poyntz married, 2ndly, before 9 Feb. 1308/9, Maud, daughter of John de Acton (died 1312), and sister and, in her issue, heir of Sir John de Acton (died circa Oct. 1361). Nicholas died shortly before 12 Jul. 1311. His widow had order for dower, 2 Sep. 1311, and married, before 12 April 1315, as his 2nd wife, Roger de Chaundos, 1st Lord Chaundos. Maud died 15 Aug. 1361.
