Overhall Manor was held prior to the Conquest by Norman and at the time of the Domesday Survey, by Ralph de Limesi who married Christina, one of the sisters of Prince Edgar Atheling, grandson of King Edmund Ironside who was brother of Edward the Confessor. Ralph de Limesi died in 1093 and was succeeded by his son and heir, Ralph who married Halewise and was succeeded by his son and heir Alan and he by son and heir Gerard. Gerard de Limesi married Amy daughter of Trian de Hornelade of Bidun-Limesi, and had issue John de Limesi who married Alice, daughter of Robert de Harcourt, afterward wife of Wlleran Earl of Warwick and died in 1198 leaving a son Hugh who died in1228 without issue. Gerard also had two daughters, one being Basilia, married to Sir Hugh Odingsells who died in 1238 leaving three sons, Hugh, Gerard and Sir William de Odingsells of Warwickshire. Hugh, the eldest son succeeded and died without issue. Gerard the 2nd son succeeded and apparently on his death was succeeded by his brother, the 3rd son, Sir William de Odingsells who married Joan and had a son, another Sir William de Odingsells who inherited the one moiety of the manor which came from his grandfather, Sir Hugh de Odingsells.

William de Odingsells, Lord of Maxstoke, was descended from Galfrid (Hugh) de Odingsells, who was Lord of Maxstoke in the right of his wife Basillia, daughter and coheir of Gerard de Limsey, Lord of Maxstoke; a marriage which took place about 20 Henry II.

Gerard de Limesi married Army, daughter of Halenade de Bidun, by whom, he had issue John, baron of Wolverley, (who dided without issue) and two daughters Basilia, married to Sir Gerard of Odingfells, a Fleming; and Alice, married to Sir Henry Pinkney.

But Salmon, in his History of Hertfordshire, p. 172, says that Basilia married Hugh de Odingfells, and Alianor to David de Lindsay. From Gerard or Hugh de Odingfells, by the said Basilia, sprang two worthy families.

"The greatest part of this town (Eperston) was the fee of Raph de Limosin, who was founder of the priory of Hertford, or else a very near successour of his of that name, who gave the tythes of Hugh Sampson (who held of him here) in Apurston, and Thorp in Newark Wapentac, of the said Raphs fee also, to that manastery, as in Woodborough is already noted. This Raph had to wife Hadwisa, by whom he had Alan de Limesi, the father of Gerard, who by Amicia his wife, had John de Limesi, who married Alice, the daughter of Robert de Harecurt, and begat on her Hugh de Limesi; but he dying without issue, as his uncles Gerard and Alan did, this barony was divided between Hugh de Odingselles, a Fleming, who married Basilia, one of the daughters of the said Gerard de Limesi, grandfather of the last Hugh de Limesi, and David de Lindesei, a Scot, who married Alianora, another of the daughters of the said .
